Hearthstone: Blizzard Touches Upon Naxxramas Lore
The mere name Naxxramas would perhaps put new players on tilt. Those who have yet to grace the floating citadel in World of Warcraft would know nothing about the many dangers lying in wait in its different wings.
In a recent blog post on Battle.net, Blizzard’s Zeriyah wrote the back story of the Necropolis where he mentioned the lore of Naxxramas, as well as the lore behind the undead terrors lurking inside.
The Naxxramas raid is one of the most iconic ones in World of Warcraft and run by the lich Kel’Thuzad himself. The dungeon is divided between four sections/wings: the Arachnid Quarter, the Plague Quarter, the Military Quarter, and the Construct Quarter. Each wing has its own type of minions and a terrible boss at the end.
The Arachnid Quarter houses undead nerubians, an ancient race of intelligent arachnoid beings. The Plague Quarter, as the name suggests, houses Kel’Thuzad’s undead army. The Military Quarter contains human soldiers who are loyal to the undead king. Finally the Construct Quarter houses various nightmarish abominations stitched together from the once-living.
Hearthstone players should feel honored that they get to play ‘cards’ against such monstrosities. You can read through the entire lore here.
The Curse of Naxxramas is an expansion pack to the free-to-play card-game Hearthstone and is scheduled for release sometime this month. Previously the developer had promised an early July release but the game’s many bugs have pushed the release date by a few days or weeks. I’m glad it’s not months.
