The First Batch of Oculus Rift DK2s Will Begin Shipping From July 14

In a recent post on Oculus Development Forums, Team Oculus has announced that the Oculus Rift Development Kits pre-orders will start shipping in the week of Jul. 14, 2014.

The community manager Andres Hernandez stated that the first batch of DK2s has left the manufacturing facility and the distribution team expects to ship around 10,000 units.

The first batch of official DK2s have left the manufacturing facility and are making their way to our distribution centers now. We expect to ship roughly 10,000 DK2s from the factory in July, with just over half of the units through distribution centers and on their way to doorsteps before the end of the month. The very first units are expected to reach developers the week of July 14.

However, having a total of massive 45,000 pre-orders, Hernandez stated that some customers may not be able to receive their DK2s until late August.

We’re now over 45,000 DK2 pre-orders, which is incredibly exciting. That said, we’re slightly behind in manufacturing and there’s currently a high chance that some developers with estimated shipping in July may not have their DK2s shipped until August.

I hope that it will work on the basis of ‘First Come, First Serve.’ Nonetheless, Hernandez has asked customers to stay calm since they have a team in China constantly undertaking the manufacturing process to deliver the said product as soon as possible.

If you have pre-ordered, you’re advised to head over to Oculus Sales Page and confirm your Shipping Address once more to fill in any space for a mishap. Though each customer will get a tracking number in their email, it is always better to double-check everything.

Having being acquired by Facebook, expecting to open up new horizons of Gaming & Social Sharing, Oculus Rift has been widely criticized by its audience. What’s your take on this?
