Escape Dead Island is Stealthy Survival Game With Cel-Shaded Visuals
Escape Dead Island is a new entry in the undead franchise from Deep Silver, one which differs from its predecessors only in the slightest.
The new title features a third-person perspective and is described by narrative Alex Toplansky as a survival mystery game with a “fresh perspective” on the Dead Island universe.
Set between the events of the first two Dead Island titles, Escape Dead Island works as a bridge between the two and reveals the origins of the virus. Players will be playing as Cliff Calo, the game’s protagonist who is “watching his world unravel.” After getting shipwrecked on the island, the young videographer begins to slowly lose contol of his mind and with it, his sanity.
In contrast to previous titles which focused more on first-person zombie slashing, Escape Dead Island lays emphasis on stealth and exploration instead. The melee combat that the series is renowned for is still there but players this time around will need to be more wary before jumping in with a baseball bat.
Finally the game boasts cel-shaded visuals which I personally have a taste for.
Escape Dead Island will release in Autumn for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game is being developed by War of the Vikings and War of the Roses maker Fatshark Sweden. It costs £39.99 on console and £34.99 on PC.
Deep Silver is surely working on expanding its Dead Island universe. The original title released in 2011, with its sequel Dead Island: Riptide in 2013. Dead Island 2 is another sequel in the series set for release in spring next year. There’s the Dead Island: Epidemic MOBA and now Escape Dead Island, the stealth explorer.
