Cross Platform Purchases Now Live On Nintendo
According to Daan Koopman better known as NintenDaan, cross platform purchases are now finally possible on Nintendo’s 3DS and Wii U. If a person was to purchase a 3DS version of any game they would receive the Wii U version for free and vice versa.
If you buy Squids Odyssey on Nintendo 3DS, you will be getting the Wii U version for free. Euro downloads just confirmed this.

Squids Oddysey, a blend between action strategy and RPG with turn based combat in over 90+ levels is apparently the first game to feature this cross buy option.
While there aren’t a whole lot of games available on both 3DS and WiiU this certainly is a huge step from Nintendo’s side to promote their consoles and to increase user interest for the future.
Now that this feature has been implemented, it is possible more games will be ported over to the console they aren’t available yet.
This move is yet another major change implemented by Nintendo quite recently, following the launch of link between 3DS and WiiU to allow users to share money between the two consoles for E-shop purchases.
Another cross-platform promotion launched recently by Nintendo was for Pushmo World, a puzzle game and a sequel to Pushmo and Crashmo where users can share their own created puzzles with other users.
If a user already owned a previous installment of the series on 3DS, they had a limited time window in which they could get the WiiU version at 30% discount.
