Minecraft Console Versions Sales Cross PC/Mac

Minecraft continues to dominate in sales and from the looks of it, there’s really no stopping to its ever increasing popularity.

Patrick Geuder Saga of Mojang announced today through his official Twitter account that the Minecraft console editions have passed the PC/Mac versions in sales. He also revealed that Minecraft alone across all platforms has sold almost 54 million copies.

“Minecraft console editions together just passed Minecraft for PC/Mac. And across all platforms we’ve sold almost 54 million copies.”

Without going into exact historic figures, I can pretty much say that Minecraft is now one of the best-selling games of all times.

That’s a major feat for a title that banks more on gameplay value than visuals and other high-tech features which every AAA game is going for these days.

Minecraft on the PC is well know for its various mods. On the consoles though the game is purely exceptional because of its local multiplayer.

In related news, the new Minecraft 1.7.10 update will release today and bring more Realms, as well as other features. The update will also feature fixes to numerous issues that players have been facing with the newly released Realm servers.

The already announced “Minecraft: Xbox One Edition” is on schedule to release in August, alongside its PS4 and PS Vita Editions. No exact release date has been set yet but upgrading from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One or PS3 to the PS4 will only cost $5.

The PS Vita Edition will be a free upgrade to existing “Minecraft: PS3 Edition” owners.
