EA Sports UFC Denials Guide – How To Deny

By   /   Jun 24, 2014

In EA Sports UFC, Denial is one of the most frustrating and hard to master technique. This is primarily due to the lack of tutorials on Denying.

Solid_Altair has compiled a comprehensive guide on different Transition Positions and how effectively you can deny them.

For a general overview, all Denials are executed by pressing R2/RT and left/right are camera references; not fighter’s sides.

However, the original creator notes that Clinch Transitions seem to be the only exception with Front/Back being the actual Front/Back on the controller and not the camera.

Clinching Attempts
There are a total of four Clinch Types which are all denied by ‘Up’ without the need of having a specific timing.

Shooting TDs
All of these are denied by ‘Down’ and are executed by holding LT/L2, arcing forward, arcing backward, and holding/letting go L1/LB.

Neutral Single Collar
Arc Back = Over=Under
Denied by Left/Right

Arc Forward = Muay Thai Clinch
Denied by Left/Right

L3 = Escape
Denied by Left/Right

L2 + Arc (+ L1) = TDs
Denied by ‘Down’

The Ground

Directions of the Transition significantly matter in the ground. Submissions are denied up with none of two fighters having Submission from Full Guard Top, North/South, and Turtle Top.

Furthermore, fighter at the bottom cannot start Submission if the fighter on top is postured up. It is possible to get up from any position with the exception of Back Mount.

Here are the positions:

Basic Strategy for Winning

The player on top should always focus on having high Stamina, especially during the position in which he/she can be submitted. Moreover, try and not get swept by your opponent.

However, if you wish to make your opponent submit, try and deny more transitions and then get a Submission Attempt when your opponent is running low on Stamina.

In case you wish to stay on ground, try and get the top position. It doesn’t matter if your opponent performs a couple of passes from side control to half-guard.
