Bohemia Interactive’s Arma 3 April Fools joke this year has now managed to raise $50,000 in charity for the Czech Red Cross.

The Arma 3: Karts trailer was originally released as an April Fools joke. However, upon the reaction of the community, the developer decided to make it happen and push it out as a DLC. It was also an opportunity for Bohemia to test out a new DLC model, where premium DLC will also come with features for everyone.

The Arma 3: Karts DLC is extremely cheap and is available for $1.99. From the sales of DLC, Bohemia is going to donate a million Czech Koruna, which ends up being around $50,000.

“Alongside helping us to evaluate Arma 3’s new approach to DLC, with the backing of our community, Arma 3 Karts has managed to raise money for a great cause”, said Jay Crowe, Creative Director on Arma 3.”

“A big thanks to our players, both for their support and their valuable feedback, which we’ll use to refine our implementation. Overall, we’re positive about the preliminary results and responses, which seems to benefit Arma 3 players and help sustain Arma 3 development.”

That’s a nice ending to what started out as a gag.

Arma 3: Karts lets player commandeer go-karts with up to 4 different paint jobs and matching race apparel. The DLC also adds various objects which will be useful for creating go-kart racetracks in the game’s editor mode.
