Snazzy Abyss Odyssey Brawler Gets Preorders On Steam
Publisher Atlus launched preorders on Steam for Abyss Odyssey, a game from developer Ace Team. Those who order it now will receive a sizable 33% discount for their trouble.
Normally, Abyss Odyssey costs $14.99, which is brought back to single digits to $9.99 with the discount. Europeans, however, need to pay the unequal tag of €14.99, reduced to €9.99 with a preorder.
Along with the price cut, Atlus also throws in the soundtrack for Abyss Odyssey at no additional cost.
Abyss Odyssey is the next brawler-focused game from ACE Team, the developer behind the trippy Zeno Clash series. While their previous titles had first-person melee combat, this new project goes for 2D side-scrolling stages.
The dark locations of Abyss Odyssey are procedurally generated, meaning no playthrough is ever the same. A set of different characters can climb ever downward into caves that gradually reveal dungeons and castle structures.
During the descent, Abyss Odyssey will lob a variety of different monsters at players. Every enemy has their own move set, which works both for a tactical layer to combat as well as the game’s absorption model.
Players can possess defeated enemies and use their skills to their advantage. Since the roster switches from bulls to specters, this design is bound to offer quite some variety.
Abyss Odyssey sort of has a Vanillaware flair to it, with slightly faded cel-shaded models and lots of filtered tones. If it can in any way also mimic games like Dragon’s Crown, we’d be even more excited.
Console deals for Abyss Odyssey preorders may follow soon. The game will release on July 15, 2014 for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
