PS4 Sleep Mode & Friend Takeover Features Have Not Been Scrapped, Says Yoshida

In February last year, we were given hopes of some interesting features that Sony’s latest console was going to have. For instance the PS4 sleep mode and friend takeover feature.

However, it has been quite a long time that has made us think maybe the two features have been scrapped altogether. Thankfully, Shuhei Yoshida has clarified that is not the case.

“Our team has been working on it. There are some things that we announced in February of last year that were not planned for the launch time frame. It is not ready yet.”

When he was asked about the expected date by which the features would be ready for launching on the PlayStation 4, he incredulously said that even he doesn’t know:

“I am asking the same question to my tech team every other week. Because every day I get reminded by lots of people: ‘Where is this? Where is that?’ It’s a great reminder for me.”

This comes in contrast to what Sony had claimed while marketing the console in February last year, we were told about the PS4 sleep mode where the system will run on a low power and keep the game where you have left it. Resuming the game would be just on a button push away.

Moreover, the friend takeover feature was also discussed around the same time making people assume that it is right around the corner. The feature would let one of your friends to overtake your controller and assist you in the game – if you allowed.

Although it has been a lot longer than what it should have taken to churn out the PS4 sleep mode and friend takeover features, it is reassuring that Yoshida is sure we will get them soon.
