EA Sports UFC Submissions Tips, Positions, How To Defend and Escape

Developed and published by Electronic Arts, Mixed Martial Arts title EA Sports UFC has just hit the store racks. In this series of UFC guides, I’ll be focusing on different gameplay mechanics like Submission, Clinching, Striking, and more.

EA Sports UFC Submissions

In this guide, however, I’ll specifically be talking about Submission and how to avoid/force submission.

How to Force your Opponent to Submit

Once your opponent is on the ground, you can initiate a submission from either top or bottom position. To initiate a submission, hold down the RB/R1 button and tap the right analogue stick in any direction.

Once you have selected your desired submission position, you’ll have to lock it by rotating the right analogue stick in any direction.

Note: It is important to keep an eye out on your Stamina Meter since it is the main deciding factor in executing a successful submission. Having higher Stamina is always better!

Once you’ve locked in your submission, you’ll see four borders (Up, Down, Left, and Right), each with ‘R’ icon, on your screen. At this time, your opponent will try to escape your submission by moving their right analogue stick to reach any of the borders.

At this point, you’ll need to match the movement of your opponent. For example, if your opponent moves his/her right analogue stick in upward direction, you must also do the same.

Note: If your opponent manages to join the ‘R’ icon with any of the four borders, your submission attempt will fail.

After successfully stopping your opponent to reach any of the borders, another indication will appear on your screen asking you to tap your left analogue stick in a particular direction.

Doing so will take you to the next level of submission. Once again, keep on doing the same – restricting your opponent to join ‘R’ icon with any of the borders by matching their movement – and you’ll end up winning.

How to Escape a Submission

As soon as your opponent starts to attempt a submission, hold down the RT/R2 trigger and push the right analogue stick in the upward direction.

However, if you fail to escape their submission attempt, you’ll see four borders (Up, Down, Left, and Right), each with ‘R’ icon, on your screen.

At this point, you must move your right analogue stick in any direction and try to join ‘R’ icon with any of the borders. Your opponent will try to match your movement and hinder your progress; therefore, it is important that you continuously change your directions.

Note: Once again, Stamina plays an important role in evading the submission. Make sure that you’re not low on Stamina.
