Phantom Dust Trailer Pays Homage To Gears of War and Halo Wars
Dropping easter eggs regarding an upcoming video game, especially if it is an exclusive on the same platform is not really something which is new. It seems like that is exactly what Killer Instinct developers Double Helix did when they announced the reboot of Phantom Dust.
Shown during Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference, the cinematic reveal trailer of Phantom Dust reboot teased the next Gears of War game which is being developed by Black Tusk Studios. While the next installment of the Gears of War franchise wasn’t present at E3, it seems it was there in spirit.
Near the 12 second mark of the Phantom Dust trailer, there is big billboard on one of the buildings which shows Marcus Fenix which his back turned towards the audience, facing various variety of Locust enemies.
Upon close inspection, one can easily notice almost all Locust Horde classes on the billboard including Boomer, Brumak and Reaver. The image was originally a part of the Gears of War 3 Launch Theme available on Microsoft online store.
Whether it is a nod to the previous Gears of War trilogy or a hint of the next game in the series is still unclear but I’m sure every Gears fan would love to see Marcus Fenix return and crush some Locust skulls.
This isn’t the only nod Phantom Dust did to fan favorite Microsoft franchise. From the looks of it, there was even an image of Halo Wars near the end of the trailer.
