Pac-Man Announced As a Playable Fighter in Super Smash Bros.

At E3 Developer Roundtable, Masahiro Sakurai confirmed the presence of Pac-Man as a playable fighter in Nintendo’s upcoming fighting game, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.

Having his separate fighting arena, the announcement trailer depicts Pac-Man primarily in his 3D appearance. Though players will be able to transform him into a 2D version by executing special attacks – including throwing fruits and eating power pallets – as confirmed by Nintendo:

A trailer also teases Mr. Game & Watch from Super Smash Bros. Melee. Since Nintendo has kept its silence on this matter, it is hard to say whether we would see Mr. Game & Watch as a returning fighter.

Being an iconic character in Nintendo Universe, I could not understand why Nintendo chose to unveil Pac-Man at a roundtable rather than at their E3 Digital Event.

In related news, Nintendo announced the inclusion of Palutena in Super Smash Bros. roster of playable fighters at their E3 Digital Event. Furthermore, players will be able to choose any Mii as a fighter by customizing it and assigning their preferred moves.

Furthermore, with Amiibo Toy Project, players will be able to place an action figure on their Wii U console which will automatically be transformed into a fighter in the game.

Super Smash Bros. is scheduled to launch in October, 2014 on 3DS and in fall on Wii U.
