Valliant Hearts Gets A New Developer Diary

By   /   Jun 6, 2014

Publisher Ubisoft has released a new developer diary for Valliant Hearts, one of its smaller projects. In the clip, the team discusses some of the gameplay elements, as well as the drive behind it.

A lot of Valliant Hearts is built on being an evocative experience with a story-driven pitch. Therefore, dialog is set aside for visual cues and the game’s presentation is ilustrated more in a comic book style.

Some gameplay segments in the trailer show off different panels and speech bubbles between characters. Valliant Hearts is set in World War I times, but it wants to tell the story around the war, not so much play on the event itself.

During the game, you’ll progress with four different characters. Each will be presented with a set of environmental puzzles that have you look at your surroundings to solve.

Together with the dark theme and the non-verbal communication, Valliant Hearts looks a little like point and click adventure Machinarium that way.

Aside from human protagonists, the game also has a dog named Walt chiming in every so often. Walt provides a more childlike view on the war.

Additionally, the dog helps with some puzzle mechanisms. For instance, we see Walt fetching something that’s out of reach for the player.

Being the helpful companion a dog usually is, Walt can also snoop around to find some collectibles.

Valliant Hearts will release on June 25, 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and PC.
