Minecraft 1.7.10 to Solve Realms Download Related Issues
Mojang has announced that Minecraft players will no longer have to download data for Minecraft Realms if they are not using the service, something which was previously somewhat of a nuisance to many players.
Minecraft Realms was launched last month to provide easy server hosting services for the less tech-savvy players. The service, while not free, provided a great opportunity to host private servers without any hassle.
Players had been complaining since launch that Realm updates were taking preference over the main game ones, clogging launchers with updates the players had no use of if they aren’t using Realms.
Mojang has now released a pre-release version of patch 1.7.10 which moves all Realm related modules to a separate library. The main advantage of this will be that if a new feature has to be added to Realms, there will be no need to release a new update for Minecraft.
Some of the features added in this update for Realms include a player activity monitor, improvements to the Realms UI and bug fixes.
The update is however, only available as an experimental snapshot for now and can corrupt your world data so it is recommended to backup your data before proceeding with the update. A proper functioning version should be available within a few days.
