Temple Run Franchise Has Crossed One Billion Downloads Mark
Imangi Studios has announced that its endless-running signature franchise, Temple Run has been downloaded more than 1 billion times on mobile devices.
Released back in August 2011, this remarkable accomplishment does not include paid spinoffs created in collaboration with Disney like Temple Run: Oz and Temple Run: Brave. Therefore, the total number of downloads for the complete franchise will be far greater than 1 billion.
The developer has also released some interesting rather jaw-dropping stats like out of all the players, 60% are female. The game has been played for 216,018 years and China tops the list of countries with most downloads with 36% followed by America with 21% and then India/UK with 4% each.
While speaking to VentureBeat, co-founder of the Imangi Studios, Keith Shepherd shared his plans regarding Temple Run 3 sequel and what studio is planning for future:
We decided we wanted to keep working on Temple Run and keep our fans engaged and keep doing more with that intellectual property and continue to build Temple Run into a franchise that’ll be around for the long term,” Shepherd said. “At the same time, we wanted to bring some of that new game development back into our lives….”
With Temple Run, Imangi Studios has successfully introduced a novel genre to video games industry. The game has been proven to be a pioneer and has given birth to ideas that transformed into Subway Surfer, Angry Gran, and Minion Rush.
In related news, Warner Bros. is supposedly conducting talks to acquire the movie rights for Temple Run. Do you think Temple Run will turn out to be a good movie? Let us know!
