The Last Guardian Listed on Amazon
Will this be the year where Sony talks about The Last Guardian, much less announce a release date?
A PlayStation 3 listing for the title was earlier spotted on Amazon’s US website. With E3 taking place in less than a week, the news easily added more fuel to further speculation about the long-delayed Sony title.
According to the listing, the game is scheduled for a release on the PlayStation 3 on December 31, 2014, which most likely is just a placeholder. Note that this doesn’t at all confirms the existence of the game. We can be hopeful yes, but it has been a long time since we last heard of the game and it’s unlikely or actually would be really surprising for Sony to announce it at E3.
Here’s Amazon’s product description: “The Last Guardian is the third game by the acclaimed development staff behind ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. In the game, a young boy and a bizarre, gigantic creature form a heartfelt bond as they attempt to maneuver their way through an unfriendly world.”
The last speculation regarding the massive delay in The Last Guardian was that the project had been shifted to the PlayStation 4. If the Amazon listing is true, then that speculation can be laid to rest.
Sony has never really confirmed that The Last Guardian has been scrapped. Last year, SCE worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida stated that it was waiting for the right time “to re-announce it”.
The Last Guardian was originally announced at E3 back in 2009. We’ll see on June 9 whether the game finally makes an appearance after five years.
