Nintendo Unveils New Figurine Platform For 3DS & Wii U

By   /   May 8, 2014

The president of Nintendo Satoru Iwata has announced that the company will release a new line of Skylanders style communication action figurines and video games, which will be code named as “Nintendo Figurine Platform” for the Wii U and 3DS.

This new technology will let the figurines read and write the data of the game across different titles. David Gibson, who was one of the attendees at the Nintendo briefing, said that Nintendo showed Mario figurine being used in multiple games.

Saturo Iwata explained the new technology as:

It has been designed to be compatible with multiple software titles for Nintendo platforms. In other words, the figurines, which consumers can buy and collect, are going to work with multiple software titles to be released in the future, and we are aiming to develop more software titles compatible with the figurines.

NFP will start being compatible with the Wii U software by the end of this year and 3DS support will come in 2015. More details and NFP related games will be shown at Nintendo’s E3 conference for the 3DS and Wii U as well.

With the launch of this new product genre, NFP, which will be compatible with Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, is going to serve as the first example of actively utilizing our own character IP.

This will provide exposure for Nintendo, play a great role in raising our brand awareness and create more opportunities for consumers to play video games.’

Are you looking forward to this new NFP technology from Nintendo?
