In their First-Quarter earnings call, Activision has announced Bungie’s plan to launch beta phase of their cooperative first-person shooter Destiny in July.

The beta starts one month before its expected multi-platform release on September 9, the beta launches first on the Playstation 3 and the Playstation 4, fans who have pre-ordered the Playstation versions of the game will be automatically added to the beta and receive their codes via email.

The news comes after Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said the company is planning on investing $500 million on development and promotion of Destiny; a spokesperson clarified the statement but added that the investment also included costs other than the ones mentioned earlier.

Nonetheless, the investment easily beats Grand Theft Auto 5 with it’s $250 million investment as well as several Hollywood movies.

Destiny is a massively multiplayer online action role-playing first person shooter developed by Bungie, makers of the Halo franchise.

Destiny takes place on Earth after a mysterious object called ‘The Traveller’ enables Humanity to colonize distant star systems, lead to a catastrophic event that brings humanity down to its knees and just when humanity is at the brink of extinction, The Traveller reappears and bestows a strange power to the last remaining guardians of Humanity.

You play as one of these guardians who manifest that power to help Humanity rise from the ashes against alien invaders who now inhabit their deserted colonies.

Destiny is set to release on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9, 2014.
