Spelunky, Metroid-like Axiom Verge And More Come To PS4

By   /   May 1, 2014

Sony organized a Playstation Indie event and wouldn’t you know it, a bunch of indie titles were announced for Playstation 4. Over 100 indie developers are said to be working with Sony right now.

From the number drop, the company has revealed a few projects. We’ll list these games below:

  • Spelunky
  • Axiom Verge
  • Escape Goat 2
  • Ironclad Tactics
  • Apotheon
  • Nidhogg
  • Starwhal: Just The Tip
  • Skulls of the Shogun Bone-a-Fide Edition
  • Jamestown+
  • Drifter
  • Chasm

Most of these are either established crowd pleasers on PC already or promising ventures. For instance, everyone knows random platform adventure Spelunky.

Spelunky will come to PS4 with improved 1080p visuals and new challenges. It’s going to look awesome dying a lot.

Our favorite, though, is Axiom Verge. This side-scrolling, pixel art adventure will make many think of Metroid merged with Contra.

Players go through weird, alien environments that are positively swarming with disturbing imagery. Axiom Verge is a lot like trying to find a way out through Giger illustrations.

Since we picked up on it in 2012, it looks like the game has been progressing. There’s not also mining and purposely designed glitches involved.

Top-down shooter Jamestown+ will update its current content with more stages and weapons. Expect to sweat bullets trying to avoid its many projectiles.

Multiplayer fans can take their pick between either Nidhogg or Starwhal. Strangely enough, both are about fencing, in some sort.

Finally, Chasm will join the list of pixelated adventures in its own side-scrolling platform game. We previously revealed its catacombs level.

PC sure is receiving its fair share of competition for that sweet indie market lately. A lot of these games are perfect fits to sit back and enjoy on a couch. Plus, a few will make their way to Vita too, so handheld owners can get excited as well.

Thanks, Destructoid.
