The Last of Us Lead Character Designer Leaves Naughty Dog

By   /   2 years ago

Continuing the streak of walk-outs, Naughty Dog has just lost Michael Knowland, the lead character artist who had worked on The Last of Us.

According to Knowland’s LinkedIn profile, he left the studio sometime this month. His career with Naughty Dog has spanned across more than three years, two of which were spent closely with The Last of Us. Prior to this, he worked at Elite: Dangerous studio Frontier Developments.

Knowland is the latest name in a series of walk-outs that began after Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog earlier this year to join Visceral Games to work on its unannounced Star Wars project. Following her was Justin Richmond, who left working as game director for the new Uncharted 4 to take his position as a developer at Riot Games. Last week art director Nate Wells announced his departure to join Unfinished Swan studio Giant Sparrow. Knowland on the other hand has yet to reveal his future plans.

Staff members leaving a studio is not something unusual but seeing so many high profiled individuals leaving an ace studio like Naughty Dog is definitely noticeable.
