Xbox One Homebrew Will Likely Be a Reality in Short Time, Hacker Claims

A group of hackers are claiming that they have found an exploit in the Xbox One, which will allow them to run homebrew on Microsoft’s new console.

The claim comes in the shape of a chat log from the EFnet lobby #xbonehack, which shows “Iriez” excitedly revealing that he has made a discovery which will open up doors for jailbreaking the Xbox One.

Iriez is a well known hacker and modder, who has been pretty active in the Xbox department. As a respectable member of the Xbox hacking community, his word could be taken as legitimate.

That said they are still in the discovery phase and the development team is now working actively on the mentioned exploit to develop something for the public.

“We will see examples within the following months… right now is the discovery phase, development must be done,” reads the log which can be found on Paste Bin.

“Think of the most radical situation that could have possibly happened. The thing that would most hurt the security. That’s what happened.”

Iriez then continues by playing with the notion of having discovered the keys needed to sign files for the Xbox One. He makes it pretty clear that to stop this exploit Microsoft would need to roll out new hardware; and even if they did that, there are still ways to keep the old keys running.

“Welcome to the beginning of a new age!” he says. “Xbox One full homebrew will likely be a reality in a short time.”

There is still no proof to hold here and all we have is the word of a hacker that’s respected in the Xbox hacking circles. The Xbox One is already having to swim upriver against the tides of the PlayStation 4.

The ability to run unsigned code on the console would likely lead to piracy on the Xbox One, thus making the situation even worse for Microsoft.
