War Thunder Brings User Generated Content In Update 1.39

By   /   Apr 17, 2014

Free-to-play game War Thunder is rolling out update 1.39 to its massively multiplayer online (MMO) game. It broadens its gameplay with a few new features, along with its tweaks.

Most importantly, War Thunder will now allow for user generated content. For instance, it’s possible to update plane skins, add a few details, but it’s equally doable to make entirely new aircrafts.

To make sure player creations work, they’ll be put through a quick test to see if they comply with game parameters. Creations can be shared with the community, so we’re expecting the X-Men Blackbird to be available in some way soon.

Moreover, the tools will allow for custom maps in a standalone editor as well. Again, these can be done from updating existing locations or by producing something entirely new.

While you wait for new environments to come up, you can already get started on the new Kursk map, based on historical battles. It comes with 4 single missions and a dynamic campaign.

Social players will be pleased with the addition of Squadron Battles in War Thunder with the 1.39 update. This allows for custom factions to go head-to-head in Events mode.

Squadron Battles will be expanded in the future. In the meantime, a PvP player rating has been added to show Silver Lions earned in-game.

War Thunder also plops a rather impressive list of 18 new aircrafts in the batch of new content. We’ll list these below:

Great Britain

  • Spitfire F Mk 24
  • Spitfire F Mk.22
  • Mosquito Mk.XVII
  • Avenger Mk.I

USSR

  • La-15
  • I-16 type 24
  • I-16 type 27
  • La-174
  • Spitfire Mk. IX

  • North American F-82 Twin Mustang
  • Republic F-84 Thunderjet

  • A6M2 mod.11

Please note that some may still be subject to alterations. Additionally, some are special models available for a limited period only.

If you’ve been part of the Ground Forces Expansion Closed Beta, you should soon find them on the main servers as well. Developer Gaijin Entertainment will open this up gradually to ensure a smooth transition.

Finally, the War Thunder 1.39 update has some attention for artificial intelligence (AI). Planes should evade better and react to players more.

A full list of changes can be found in the War Thunder change log.
