Previous reports of the PlayStation 4 reaching the magical 7 million mark have now been confirmed by Sony. In an announcement on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 4 has successfully sold more than 7 million units worldwide as of April 6, 2014.

Regarding PlayStation 4 software sales, Sony stated that it has sold more than 20.5 million copies through retail and the PlayStation Store as of April 13, 2014.

Sid Shuman, the company’s Social Media Manager expressed just how grateful the company was for getting such an outstanding ovation from the consumers.

“On behalf of the entire global team at PlayStation, I want to thank you for your unprecedented support and for making PS4 your next-generation console of choice,” he said. “We couldn’t have done this without you! And please keep the feedback coming: we are listening.”

At the end Shuman teased about upcoming PlayStation 4 system software updates, details of which will be passed along soon. There has been a long list of features requested by fans for Sony’s new console, only some of which the company has delivered so far. The new updates will probably cross off more from that list.

In the meanwhile unconfirmed reports state that Microsoft has crossed 4.5 million sales for its Xbox One console. However, the company has yet to officially announce any new numbers.
