Rumor: Bandai Namco Hiring for Super Smash Bros. 6 – Game Might Arrive in 2015

We will always welcome another Super Smash Bros. game, but this one has come as a totally unexpected surprise. Game Jouhou has reported that Bandai Namco is currently hiring for a game called Super Smash Bros. 6.

Now we aren’t sure what exactly is going on, but here’s the story. A listing on a Japanese careers website was picked up recently. It shows a job opening at Bandai Namco that is asking for professionals to work on the Super Smash Bros. 6 game. The game is apparently going to be released in 2015 on Wii U and 3DS.

The page has now been taken down but you can see the screengrab here.

According to the report, the job listing claimed that up to 120 people were currently working on the project in question and at least 80 more were expected. They were looking for programmers to take up different jobs ranging from characters, 3D programming, menu, UI, game modes, stages, motion, minigames and more.

Here’s another excerpt from the listing:

“Social games are currently a big hit, but the current state of job opportunities for making retail games is critically low. In the midst of this, this will likely be your only chance to be part of a development project for the Smash Bros. [series], which has surpassed a total of 10 million in worldwide sales. And Bandai Namco believes that now is the best time to recruit programmers for retail games.”

What do you think this is about? Could it really be that a Super Smash Bros. 6 game is in the making? Or is it possible that the ‘6’ was just a typo?
