Hearthstone, Diablo 3, WoW and StarCraft Hit by DDOS Attacks, April Fools’ Day is Here

What a start to the April Fools’ Day. I am sure the DDOS attackers know that jokes like these are not actually jokes and they are humorous only to themselves. However, the four major games of Blizzard i.e. Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, StarCraft and Hearthstone, have been struck by multiple attacks by hackers who wish to disrupt the games.

The support page of Battle.net has confirmed the news and said that they are monitoring it as of this moment:

Diablo, World of Warcraft, StarCraft and Hearthstone players may be impacted by high latency and disconnections during their gaming experience that are the result of a series of DDoS attacks on certain European online services. Although Blizzard’s infrastructure isn’t targeted, the disruption effects rippled and have been felt by a portion of our players’ population. While we are closely monitoring the situation we wanted to thank you for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

They have further requested the players to keep a track of Blizzard’s official twitter account saying that that’s where further updates on the matter will come from.

For those of you who don’t know what a DDOS attack is; it’s a short form of Distributed Denial of Service Attack where multiple Trojan infected systems are used to target a single system – in this case the servers of the four games. What happens is that an artificial traffic is generated that floods the victim.

I wonder whose idea was it to do all this on the April Fools’ Day. How many of you have experienced disconnections or other issues in Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, StarCraft or Hearthstone?
