Wii and DS Free DLC Going Away With Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in May
Nintendo is shutting down Nintendo Wi-FI Connection and as a result, certain Wii and DS-free DLC will no longer be available for downloading. There had been a confusion as to what DLC will become unavailable and the company has given a statement to clear out things.
The statement provided by a Nintendo spokesperson clarified that any Wii and DS free DLC that was previously available through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will now go away. This includes Dragon Quest XI’s quests and Picross 3D puzzles among many other things.
Here’s the official statement that was sent out:
The bonus Layton puzzles and such will no longer be available. So you need to get them before the service shuts down. Paid stuff will still be available, though (Wii Shop Channel, etc.).
Previously, a press release by Nintendo had informed the Wii and DS users about the future of downloading free content for certain games as well as the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection’s termination:
As of May 20th, 2014, it will no longer be possible to download additional free content for certain Nintendo DS/DSi software. This includes free puzzles for games in the Professor Layton series, additional items and furniture in Animal Crossing: Wild World, and other titles. This is due to the upcoming termination of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service on May 20th.
After this date, it will no longer be possible to use online features of Nintendo DS/DSi and Wii software such as online play, matchmaking and leaderboards.
There is still time, if you wish to get any of the Wii and DS free DLC for the games in question, get it now.
