Sony Going Back to the “Drawing Board” with Driveclub – Delayed Yet Again
DriveClub – the poor PS4 exclusive that has been delayed again and again, and was recently reported as being released on the 9th of April is getting delayed…again.
The game which must be going through developmental hell right now, is possibly getting many features changed, possibly due to the poor reception it got at E3.
DriveClub was originally expected to ship along with the Playstation 4 in bundles – since the developers had access to the console really early, and the game was one of the first PS4 titles announced. It comes from Sony-owned Evolution Studio, a developer that understands the racing genre (making its name on the MotorStorm franchise) so it’s a surprise that the game is getting delayed again.
Originally revealed as a launch title, the game got delayed to be released with PS4’s japanese launch, but got struck down, with the developers commenting that they wanted to ensure that DriveClub launched with “next-gen vision” in mind.
Sony’s Scott Rohde – one of the men in charge of Sony’s family of first party studios – had this to say about the status of its phantom racing game:
“What I will say is that it all comes back to that fundamental principle, and that’s that we want to build great games,” Rohde said. “And we really don’t want to release a game before it’s ready. And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we’re on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”
“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost],” Rohde continued, “and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game.”
Rohde didn’t comment about whether the game will get a 2014 release or not, although a Sony PR representative said that more details about the game’s release would be revealed soon.
This might mean that the title is getting delayed to 2015, or that we might never even get to see the much hyped about Sony exclusive. Who knows? Maybe they’re waiting for VR integration into the game.
For more details on the game, stay tuned.
