Things We Want to See in Next-Gen Gears of War by Black Tusk
Mass Effect and Gears of War were the two reasons I bought an Xbox 360. Following the news of Microsoft acquiring rights to the Gears of War franchise, I’m both excited and worried about the future of the franchise.
As you may very well know by now that the Black Tusk Studios will be seeing the development of the franchise from this point forth. I seek this opportunity to voice my wish list for a game that has always been very close to my heart.
Also, don’t forget to share your own wish list with me in the comments below!
With Gears of War: Judgment, People Can Fly revamped the multiplayer aspect of the game in a bad way. I was utterly disappointed when I saw that PCF transformed the popular Horde Mode into a new mode called Overrun. Unlike Horde Mode, which pit players against AI controlled Locusts or playing as Locusts, Overrun encouraged Human vs. Human gameplay.
And then there were some small issues which made Gears of War: Judgment multiplayer feel average. For example, it encouraged multiple players to choose same characters in Team Deathmatch and Free-for-All which kind of induced befuddlement during the whole match.
These minor issues must be dealt with and once again, Horde Mode must replace game modes like Breakthrough and Overrun!
Now, I understand that People Can Fly was trying to get innovative with things that I have mentioned above but, there certainly are more ways to make a game interesting. The old school Lancer will always be one my favorite weapons to use but, it doesn’t hurt to incorporate new weapons to the game’s arsenal. Although we don’t know whether the story will proceed towards future or remain in the past like in Gears of War: Judgment, there are plenty of options to include new weapons and equipment.
Furthermore, it would be nice to see larger multiplayer matches. The game has always brought up close-ranged combat in small vicinity. Personally, I believe pitting 24 players against each other would be an innovative step. Even including in a single game mode like Ground War or Mercenary Mosh Pit will be great.
The unique gameplay is further driven out by amazing characters and engaging story. Characters like Marcus, Cole, Dom, and Baird have left a deep impact on all of us fans. But I think it is time to move on and feature a new story or at least take it into a new dimension. The world of Gears of War is huge and there can be many different possibilities and new characters.
In addition to new characters and plot, a new setting will certainly complement the upcoming game. Now that the current location has run out of various life-needing resources, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to move on to a different planet; maybe to space in future.
With the evolution of technology, it sounds like a good idea to include Smart Glass integration for the next title. It can certainly be useful in terms of commanding squad mates or calling in Airstrikes. Also, when we talk about technology, the cloud is capable of performing miracles like improved AI behavior and adapting to different playstyle and strategies. These things could greatly enhance the gameplay experience.
Finally, just like Titanfall, I would love to see the next Gears of War on PC. I know it’s a long shot, but it doesn’t hurt to dream, right?
That’s all I have on my wish list, feel free to voice your opinion on the upcoming game in the comments below!
