DayZ Standalone Crashes, Errors, Freezes, Update, Server and Fixes
After WarZ’s disaster last year, Everyone had their eyes peeled on DayZ Standalone version. Bohemia interactive learnt the lesson from War Z and delayed their game so that they can have proper time to polish their product.
Now, after a long wait, the alpha version for the game has been made available via Steam’s Early Access. Since it’s an Alpha version, you can expect a plethora of issues with the product. Even the developer has clearly stated on Steam that the game is bound to have issues so if you are not interested in supporting the development, Don’t buy it.
In any case, a lot of users have purchased it already and the discussions to find workarounds for the different bugs and errors are at the peak. We have shortlisted some of the common known issues with the DayZ Alpha for you.
Browse through the following listing to find a possible fix for the concerned problem.
#1 DayZ Standalone Mouse Cursor Fix
If you are experiencing issues related to mouse cursor in the game, you should try using small icons for your desktop from the windows settings. For that, right click desktop and select screen resolution.
There, you will be able to find settings for icons to make the smaller or larger. Choose Normal or smaller to fix the issue. You can also try running the game in the windowed mode as it fixed the problem for some users.
#2 DayZ Standalone Can’t Open Doors Bug
The developer is aware of the bug, and they will come out with a fix sooner or later. For the time being, try joining the servers that end with 72 as these servers seem not to have this bug.
#3 DayZ Standalone Character Freeze and Related Bugs
There are some servers for the time being that seem to have not been updated yet. So if you are stuck somewhere and getting a weird bug like character freezing or not able to rest, etc., you should switch to some other server (try servers even with high ping) to resolve the issue.
#4 DayZ Standalone Can’t Update Fix
Well, first thing you should try is restarting Steam. If that doesn’t work, make sure that your firewall isn’t blocking the game. Still no luck? You should ultimately try reinstalling the game to fix the problem.
#5 DayZ Standalone Servers Not Showing Up
It’s another bug in the game. If the server list does not appear to you even after clicking the Internet tab, I will recommend that you Restart Steam and try again.
If one of your friends are in a server, you can join them in that server, and your game will work fine. It’s just a workaround, and I hope that a proper fix will be rolled out soon. Furthermore, make sure that your firewall or any other security tool isn’t blocking the game.
#6 DayZ Standalone Freezing Fix
If your game is freezing randomly, and you are also experiencing black screen now and especially when you get back into the game after minimizing it, you should update your drivers to the latest.
Some users have reported that beta drivers fixed the issue for them.
#7 DayZ Standalone Startup Crash Fix
Some users are experiencing crashes at the startup along with the black screen. First, I will recommend that you wait for a while as it make sometime for the game to load up for the first time. If nothing happens, you should close down the application and Steam and try launching the game from the game folder on your PC. Don’t forget to run it “as admin.”
#8 DayZ Standalone Texture and Rendering Issue
If you are having weird textures and visuals, I will recommend that you first try restarting the game. If that doesn’t help, you should make sure that you are using latest drivers for your GPU.
Laptop users should make sure that they are running the game using their dedicated graphics chip and are not using the power-saving mode.
#9 DayZ Standalone – Mouse Acceleration Bug
It’s a known bug to the developer that Mouse Acceleration is not working (on/off toggle) for some users. There is no proper workaround, for the time being, but I think that it will be fixed soon enough.
#10 DayZ Standalone – Error creating Direct3D 9 graphical engine
This error was also reported by multiple users with Operation Arrowhead. If you are experiencing it on DayZ Standalone, I will recommend that you first try a fresh install of directx 9 on your PC. Uninstall the old one and proceed with the new installation.
If that doesn’t work, you can use the following command line:
I know it’s for Operation Arrowhead but it doesn’t hurt to give it a shot as DayZ uses the same engine as well, right? Also, make sure that your game is up to date and you are not missing any patch for the game. Just restart Steam to know if there is any update or not.
#11 DayZ Standalone – Error: Device reset failed, error 8876086c
If you are experiencing this error, you are most probably using Windows XP with relatively low RAM. I will recommend that you tone down textures to resolve the issue. An if it’s possible, you should try to upgrade your OS to Windows 7 to permanently fix the problem.
Like you already know, it’s the alpha build for the game. Although the game is looking great, problems are inevitable. We will update this post with more solutions as soon as we could. In the meanwhile, if you have any solutions of your own, share with us in the comments below.
