In case you’re too young to know of them, Fighting Fantasy is the name of a series of single-player roleplaying gamebooks way back in the 80’s. For some time now, Aussie developer Tin Man Games has been adapting them as iOS games.
The books were written up by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, the co-founders of Games Workshop and the one that’s been adapted now is called Island of the Lizard King.
It tells the story of a group of young men kidnapped by the “vicious” Lizard Men of Fire Island, who find themselves facing a “grim future of slavery, starvation and a lingering death”.
Livingstone himself seems to be quite happy with Tin Man Games’ performance and had the following to say:
It’s been a pleasure to work with Tin Man Games on this project. They have succeeded brilliantly in capturing the essence of Fighting Fantasy, re-imagining Island of the Lizard King for digital audiences. The new features are great, auto-mapping in particular, and readers will need all the help they can get to deal with the Gongchong and Lizard Men who are looking forward to welcoming hapless victims to their island.
