Finally, Some Word on The Last Guardian

Put on your hard-hats folks, because this is just going to explode your minds. We finally have some comments from Shuhei Yoshida about The Last Guardian. Apparently it’s undergoing re-engineering and will most likely be on the PS4.

Yoshida had a detailed interview with GamesIndustry International, in which he let everybody have a few scraps of information. Upon being asked which console would be the platform for The Last Guardian, he responded that he could not talk about that.

He did however say that the game was not on hiatus, and that it never was. Apparently the term was used in a wrong way and that what was on hiatus was just the flow of information to the public.

Hiatus, I never… It was Jack Tretton! He used that term, and I said no, hiatus is misleading. It was a hiatus in terms of releasing new information. The game has never stopped – the team has always been here. They’re going through the re-engineering of the game, so the team size is smaller, because it’s more engineering focused right now.

He reassured fans that the game is, in-fact, in development and that it was even being worked on by Fumito Ueda, who is working on it as a freelance agent, despite not actually working for Team Ico or Sony Computer Entertainment Japan anymore.

So, we’re waiting for the right time to re-introduce The Last Guardian in an appropriate way. I can’t… Well, the game is in development, and it’s well staffed, and Ueda-san is here, working – even though he’s not a Sony employee, he’s dedicated to the product. But we’re not ready to update yet.

The reason I surmise that it’s probably going to be a PS4 game is because in August Yoshida said that internal PlayStation studios are moving to PS4 games. Furthermore, in September, PlayStation UK managing director Fergal Gara said he was unsure if any more internal flagship games were coming to PS3 by Christmas 2014.

It’s still a bit of speculation though, so take the last bit with a grain of salt.
