Alright so the Piston PC manufacturer, Xi3 has an announcement to make very soon. We know that they have had a history with Valve, one that included investments into development, but could this announcement still be about Valve’s upcoming SteamBox?
SteamBox or as they have now started to brand it as Steam Machine was announced two days ago and so far a lot of information is missing regarding the project.
We did learn that Valve was teaming up with NVIDIA for the graphics development of SteamOS but the hardware side is still clouded in speculation.
Right now Xi3’s website is teasing what looks like a next Piston PC game machine related announcement. “The wait is over” states the page with September 30 as the announcement date on the bottom of the page.
It was previously rumored that the Piston as Xi3 calls it was actually Valve’s SteamBox; this was due to the fact that an investment on part of Valve into Xi3 was confirmed earlier this year.
Everything seems to be coming in line with Valve announcing their new gaming machine, teasing that 300 units of it will be out in the hands of testers by the year end and Xi3 (their alleged partners) teasing a hardware announcement at the end of this month. Could this actually be true?
It is not as simple as that just yet, we also know that the two companies had run into a dead end based on the choice of the operating system to be used.
I guess we will find out in a couple of days, whether the partnership is still going or not, do check back on September 30.
