It seems that Frictional Studios has been working on a new title after handing over development of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs to The Chinese Room. Check out this new teaser website they just launched.
The website itself is set up in the theme of a computer system rebooting after suffering critical failure. You can see there is a loading bar on the screen (which was filled up to 32% at the time of this writing). The bar seems to be filling up at a rate of about 1% per hour, though I cannot be sure.
Unlike Amnesia, this game may be put in a slightly more modern setting, if the distorted text in the bottom right is any indication (I think it says ‘System Failure’). Since there also seems to be some alien text in the corners of the loading dialog box, it may even be a futuristic setting.
We may be looking at an entirely new franchise, as I have a feeling that it’s not Penumbra, and the computer system settings don’t fit Amnesia. Besides, Frictional might not even want to continue that series themselves, which would probably be why they handed it over to The Chinese Room.
The only thing that we know for sure about this game is that it’s probably going to be developed on the latest iteration of Frictional’s in-house engine – the HPL 3.
