Castlevania: Lords of Shadow PC Crashes, Errors, Freezes and Fixes

List of errors, crashes, freezes and workarounds to fix them to play Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on PC.

When Castlevania: Lords of Shadow came out back in 2010, it was received well both by fans and critics. The PC version, however, was missing but Konami ultimately decided to port the classy action-adventure experience to PC.

The port seems well-polished but still, you might be the unlucky guy experiencing game-breaking issues.

These issues if persistent, are usually patched but if it’s something with your machine, your only hope is to look for a fix or a workaround shared by the community.

If you are looking for a solution for a problem related to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, you should browse through the workarounds listed below:

#1 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Can’t Launch the Game (White Screen)
If you are hearing the sound in the background but haven’t been able to see any interface due to a black or white screen, you can use the compatibility fix to resolve the issue.

Go to steam/steam apps/common/Castlevania LOS/bin and open properties using right click. Here, you should set the compatibility mode to windows vista. Now, run the game as administrator and it should work.

#2 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Flickering Fix
The flickering issue is usually related to outdated graphics card drivers. If your drivers are up to date and you are using SLI/Crossfire, I will recommend that you try running the game using a single GPU.

The game isn’t that hard on graphics anyway so a single GPU should be able to give you satisfying results.

#3 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Screen Artifacts and Performance Issues
Another issue was reported to be SLI related. Again, the game isn’t so resource-consuming that you would need two cards for a smooth experience. Just disable one of your cards and it should work like a charm.

Furthermore, some users have reported that the beta drivers weren’t working well so they rolled back to the previous version to fix it. I won’t recommend it but if you want to, no one is stopping.

#4 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Controller Issue
If your controller isn’t supported by the game, you can use third-party tools like x360ce to configure it. This way, your controller will be recognized as a 360 controller and you will be able to enjoy the game normally.

#5 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Black Screen Fix
The black screen can appear due to multiple reasons. First off, make sure that you aren’t using the in-game resolution more than your native resolution.

If the game by default started with that resolution, you should run it in the windowed mode and then change the setting accordingly. Also, make sure that you aren’t forcing AA through CCC or Radeonpro.

Third-party tools like Afterburner and fraps can also cause this issue.

#6 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Game Freeze Fix
If your game is stuck somewhere during the gameplay and you are using x360ce or a similar tool, you should try getting through that sequence without your controller.
