Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Developer Walkthrough Shows off Diving

By   /   Aug 14, 2013

Ashraf Ismail, game director for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, showed off seven minutes of his game in a developer walkthrough appearing on IGN.

At the video’s onset, we’re greeted with a montage of beautifully rendered moments from the game, finally settling in on a creaky pirate ship as the narrator informs us we’re searching for a guy named Julian Ducas (Assange?), an arms dealer. Before heading to Havana, we get a look at diving in Black Flag.

Edward Kenway, the protagonist of Black Flag, explores the ocean floor using a diving bell to get into an underwater cave. As the narrator explains, the diving bell is an authentic device used during this time to access deep water. In nothing but his skivvies, Kenway dodges sharks while searching for treasures and secret entrances to caves.

When Kenway emerges from the water, he is without any of his gear (due to stripping down to dive) and only has his throwing knives. From the looks of it, Black Flag will be another challenging entry in the Assassin’s Creed series.
