Dragon’s Crown Elf Builds, Combat and Skills Guide

By   /   Aug 9, 2013

Dragon Crown’s Elf is a ranged physical damage dealing character that is adept with the bow. The Elves are a long-lived race, and though they have weak bodies, their acrobatic skills and immense knowledge make them a force to be reckoned with.

The Elf is an agile ranged character possessing a wide variety of skills. This allows her to be an extremely essential asset in team games. As with the Wizard and Sorceress, positioning with the Elf character is very important, since she has low magic and physical defenses.

How To Play Elf

The Elf is a ranged DPS character. This allows her to constantly deal damage with her ranged attacks and unique skills, while at the same time avoiding close contact with enemies. The role of the Elf as a DPS character is to constantly offensively support heavy-hitting characters like the Amazon, Dwarf, and Fighter, doing a large amount of supportive damage to enemies.

The following are the highlights of the Elf:

  • The Elf is a ranged character, and has weak physical and magic defense
  • Positioning is extremely important with the Elf
  • In teams, the role of the Elf is to ‘carry’ the team forward with her offensive support
  • The Elf uses a large variety of attacks and skills. It is important to know which skills to use for which situation/enemy type
  • The Elf is slightly difficult to play with because of her versatility and complex skills
  • Though the Elf is primarily a ranged character, she also has some acrobatic melee skills that help in getting away from uncomfortably close enemies
  • The Elf excels in critical hits because of higher base Dexterity and Luck

In normal circumstances, attacks like the Charged Shot and Bow Attacks (On and normal) will be your best friend. However, consider using aerial melee attacks and on-ground melee attacks when intimidating enemies get up close.

Another great attack to use frequently is the Dash Bow Attack. This allows the Elf to quickly dodge enemy attacks and retaliate with a bow shot. It just needs a little bit of practice to execute at will.

Elf Special Skills/Abilities

Special Skills in Dragon Crown are character-related abilities that do additional damage, give passive offensive or defensive advantages, or enhance the utility aspect of the player. These skills are unique for every character.

All skills have a certain number of levels. Skills can be made more effective by unlocking their levels, which is done through skill points. Each level requires its own specific amount of skill points to unlock. Additionally, skill levels also have a required character level.

The Elf has 12 different skills, which are explained below. Recommended and suggested skills are also highlighted in the descriptions.

Power Shot
This skill adds additional power to the Charge Shot, creating a sort of ‘shockwave’. The range of the skill and its power increase with increase in skill level.

Option Dagger
This skill equips the Elf with a dagger for melee attacks. Though melee isn’t your primary mode of attacking, it is essential to have a powerful close-combat setup to ensure that enemies don’t overwhelm you.

Thus, this is a recommended skill. A downside of the skill is that you won’t be able to use the jump attack with it. However, this is well compensated with the fact that the dagger is much more lethal than standard melee attacks.

Elf Builds

Now that we have the various skills covered, it’s time to look at how some of them can be combined together to make a build for the Elf. Builds tend to differ from each other in-terms of playstyle, so it is important to understand what you’re doing to suit with how you play.

Not that basic skills like ‘extra pockets’ etc. are not discussed. Those are entirely subjective.

Below are two sample builds of the Elf, described in detail:

Build #1 – Boss Slayer

Skills:

  • Power Shot – Maxed level
  • Arrow Stock – Maxed level
  • Impact Arrow – Maxed level
  • Sara Mandla Oil – Partially leveled
  • Toxic Extract – Partially leveled
  • Reduced Damage – Partially leveled

This is a heavy-hitting burst damage build for the Elf. In this build, the Elf sacrifices acrobatic skills and speed for added damage. The downfall of the build is that it limits the Elf severely in-terms of movement. However, this build is very successful in team battles, and is specifically tailored for fighting bosses.

The Power Shot and Impact Arrow skills are the core of this build. Since Power Shot requires a charging time, it is important that timing and distance are kept in mind with this skill. Impact Arrow will grant your shots a large amount of damage, while standard shots will be covered with toxic and fire damage from Toxic Extract and Sara Mandla Oil respectively.

Of course, the ideal situation of managing to maintain a distance isn’t something you’ll always observe, so you want to beef up defenses with Reduced Damage. Level up the last three skills to any extent you want to – their main purpose is to compliment the central Power Shot and Impact Shot abilities.

Build #2 – Backstabbing Assassin

Skills:

  • Option Dagger – Maxed level
  • Backstab – Maxed level
  • Toxic Extract – Maxed level
  • Sara Mandla Oil – Partially leveled
  • Boots Enhanced – Partially leveled
  • Reduced Damage – Partially leveled

This is a unique build that seems to be getting quite an acclaim. Since Dragon’s Crown doesn’t have any real ‘Assassin’ character, the Elf qualifies as a good substitute for the role because of one major skill: Option Dagger. This skill greatly increases the Elf’s reliability in close-quarters, and if coupled with Backstab, can become deadly.

The trick (or rather prerequisite) to playing this build is being accustomed with backstabbing techniques observed in RPG and MMO games. If you are used to it, then this build should be no problem at all….theoretically.

You want to make sure you have Toxic Extract as well. This skill will allow you to jump in, backstab, then allow you and your team to do some quick damage, and finally get out to recuperate. Thus, this is kind of a ‘burst damage’ or ‘spike damage’ build.

Boots Enhanced should be a good initiation or finalizing move, and Reduced Damage will surely aid you, since you’ll be going up close. As stated earlier, this build is getting quite the attention, and it seems to be one clever way of playing such a versatile character.
