Firefly Online Announced at Comic-Con, Is “Social Online RPG”

Rumors about a Firefly MMO based on the television series of the same name came up on the web back in 2011. The prospect of Firefly Universe Online went up and down until finally the whole thing was called off due to licensing issues.

This was largely due to the fact that the show itself was cancelled prematurely in its first season and though people, myself included, loved the season; it’s unsure as to why the series was cancelled altogether.

Comic-Con is happening right now in San Diego and Sparkplug Games over there have revealed to be working on Firefly Online; which will release for all iOS and Android devices on an unspecified date in 2014. According to its website additional platforms may be included later on.

“In Firefly Online, players assume the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and seek out adventures, all the while trading with and competing against the millions of other players to try to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job, keep flying,” reads the description on the site.

Information on the developer is scarce at this point. But we know that Firefly Online is going to be a “multi-user, social online roleplaying game.”
