Xbox 360 Crosses Wii in UK to Become Most Sold Console This Generation

In a surprising turn of events, Nintendo’s Wii may have ended up losing the crown for most sales in the UK region this generation. According to a report from MCV, the Xbox 360 has shifted over 8.4 million units to cross the Wii and become the best-selling console of this generation; in UK at least.

The Xbox 360 was released in December 2005 and has taken around 8 years to reach the goal.

“This is an historic milestone and our sincere thanks goes to each and every person that has bought and enjoyed Xbox 360 over the past eight years,” Director of Xbox and entertainment Harvey Eagle told MCV.

However, to be crowned the best console of all time it still needs to record 1.5 million sales to tie up with the PlayStation 2. Sony’s successful and iconic console was launched back in 2000 and shifted 10 million units.

At E3 this year Microsoft announced continuous support for the Xbox 360, even though their new next-gen Xbox One is on the horizon.

“As you saw at E3 earlier this month, we announced a new Xbox 360 form factor and we are committed to ensuring Xbox 360 remains the best place to play games, connect with friends and enjoy your entertainment,” Eagle added.

“You’ll see great exclusive content coming not only to Xbox 360, but also to Xbox One later this year.”
