Microsoft Explains Why Xbox One Doesn’t Include a Headset

By   /   Jun 26, 2013

Unlike the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One will not come bundled with a headset. The headset is going to be sold separately by Microsoft for an unknown price which currently is speculated to be around $60.

As you can imagine, there were a lot of questions by consumers as to why Microsoft would take this step since even the Xbox 360 came bundled with one.

Today, a firm representative issued a statement in response; stating that the new Kinect will act as your new microphone and if you’re looking for a headset, there are plenty on sale.

“Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”

While I get why Microsoft would ditch a headset for the microphone; the fact remains that the average gamer would always prefer a headset for privacy concerns. Imagine playing a multiplayer game with your friends on Skype and suddenly one of them starts raging his head off. A headset would ensure that no close family members would think of your friend being a jack-ass.

The Xbox One already comes at a steep price of $500; would you be willing to shill out another $60 for a headset?
