State of Decay Bases Unlock and Facilities Upgrades Guide – How To Build


State of Decay is an open-world sandbox title which takes your decisions and the choices you make into consideration the most. It is up to you whether you would like to set up a camp somewhere with a few survivors and a handful supplies against a great zombie threat or go out and fight your way. The game is ever evolving and would test your ultimate survival skills.

Home Bases

In the world of State of Decay, a home base is the only place where you are safe from zombie attacks. You will be able to share a home base with your community members along with storing weapons and other resources in it. Moreover, you can also build facilities and upgrades in your home base.

When you move into a new home base, you will find some facilities already present there. But you won’t be able to use these facilities unless you repair them. Also note that, at a given time only one base can be utilized. However, you can always move to a new and bigger base with more space for facilities.

Home Bases in State of Decay

Given below are the details of all the home bases in the world of State of Decay:

Church of Ascension
This is going to be the very first base you will come across in the world of State of Decay. This home base has one parking lot and it can occupy four outposts. You can find this outpost in the town of Spencer’s Mill.

How To Unlock:
This is the very first home base so it doesn’t require you to do anything at all.

Facilities:
The facilities present in this home base include a sleeping room, radio room, kitchen, a medical area, watch-tower and a parking lot.

Upgradable Spots:
There are two open spots for upgrades. One interior and two exterior.

Kirkman’s Residence
You will be able to find this home base right next to an ammo shop in Spencer’s Mill. You can easily recognize this building as it will be surrounded four way by a short wall of stones.

How To Unlock:
To unlock this home base you will require 8 survivors, 30 construction material and 100 influence points.

Facilities:
This home base has a space for one sleeping room, one radio room and a workshop.

Upgradable Spots:
There are a total of 3 open spots for upgrading. Out of which, one is interior and two are exterior.

McReady’s Farmhouse
McReady’s Farmhouse is a large home base which can hold upto 6 outposts and a large number of other facilities.

How To Unlock:
To unlock McReady’s Farmhouse, you will need around 8 fellow survivors and 30 construction goods.

Facilities:
Facilities included in this home base are sleeping rooms, radio rooms, bunk house, kitchen, storage room and a parking lot for 3 cars.

Upgradable Spots:
You will be able to build a watch tower in this home base along with one interior upgrade spot and two exterior.

Savini Residence
Savini Residence is again a large base having space for 6 outposts along with large number facilities available to you. You can find this home base in the Marshal Town.

How To Unlock:
To unlock this home base you will require 8 community survivors, 30 construction goods and 100 influence points.

Facilities:
This home base holds facilities like sleeping room, radio room, watch tower, kitchen and library.

Upgradable Spots:
There are a total of 3 upgrade spots available in this home base including 2 exterior and 1 interior.

Snyder Trucking Warehouse
This large blue warehouse can be found in the south-west area of the map. It has a built-in workshop where you can repair your vehicles. The only problem is that its defenses are quite weak and you may want to set-up a watch tower as soon as you get this.

How To Unlock:
To get this home base you will need a total of 12 fellow survivors, 50 construction material and 100 influence points.

Facilities:
This home base will provide you with sleeping rooms, radio rooms, kitchen, a workshop, a bunker and a parking lot for 4 cars.

Upgradable Spots:
You can build a watch tower in this home base. Also, there are 4 exterior spaces where you can upgrade and 1 interior and it can occupy 6 outposts at the same time.

The Alamo
Alamo can also be found in the town of Marshal. It is a basic home base with 4 outposts and a bunch of other facilities.

How To Unlock:
Unlocking this home base is not difficult at all. You just need 5 survivors with you, 20 construction material and 100 influence points.

Facilities:
The facilities include a storage room, radio room, kitchen, a parking lot, and a watch tower.

Upgradable Spots:
This home base carters 2 interior spots that you can upgrade and 1 exterior.

Trumbull Country Fairgrounds
You can find this home base in North West part of the map near an army headquarter.

How To Unlock:
Unlocking this home base is quite easy as it only requires 12 fellow community members, 50 construction material at your disposal and 100 influence points.

Facilities:
There are a few facilities included in this home base – a room for dining, a radio room, a storage room, a kitchen and a watch tower.

Upgradable Spots:
There are a number of spots in this home base that can be upgraded. 4 spots that are outside of the home base are upgradable and 1 is inside the home base.

Facilities – What are they?

In State of Decay, you can upgrade and construct facilities in your home base so as to facilitate your community members.

Another thing you should keep in mind is that the number of facilities you can build in a particular home base depends upon the size of your home base. The larger your home base, the more facilities you will be able to build.

Another thing is that you need some construction materials and a specific time frame to build a facility.

Facilities in State of Decay

Cooking Area
Cooking area enables you to cook fresh food so as to prevent you from falling ill. Or you can always have one of the community members to cook food. Building a cooking area requires you to have at least two community members, 13 influence points, 10 construction materials and a time frame of 1 day.

Garden Area
A garden area is an exterior-only facility that enables you to grow your own food. Or you can always turn it into a greenhouse by studying about it in a library. Building a garden area requires you to have at least two survivors, 25 construction materials, 50 influence points and around half an hour of time frame.

Generator
Generators help the community by consuming fuel to generate electricity. However, it should be noted that since generators make noise while working, it may invite unwanted zombies. To build a generator, you will require a workshop and 10 fuel.

Library
The library provides you with comprehensive information regarding upgrading buildings. For instance, after researching about it, you can transform a garden into a greenhouse. However, building a library requires you to have 20 construction materials and a time frame of about half an hour.

Medical Facility
A medical facility is an area where you can heal other community members and ail them from deathly diseases. This increases the chances of survival of your community members and yourself. To build a medical facility you basically require 10 medicine, 10 construction materials, at least two survivors, 20 influence points and a time frame of 30 minutes.

You also get a 50% faster healing rate for building a medical facility.

Sleeping Areas
The sleeping area facility allows your community members to take rest enabling them to gain their stamina faster. You need 5 construction goods, at least two or more community members, 10 influence points and a 10 minutes time-frame to build a sleeping area facility.

Please note that, not all sleeping areas are comfortable enough.

Storage Area Facility
As the name itself suggests, a storage room allows you to store your equipment, food, ammo, construction material, etc. Building a storage room requires you to have a workshop, 20 construction materials, at least two survivors, 10 influence points and a time frame of an hour.

It also allows you to have new recipes for food and reduce the spoilage of food present.

Training Area Facility
A training area facility allows you to improve your physical health and learn new skills at the training ground. Constructing a training area requires you to have 10 construction material, at least 2 community members, 50 influence points, 20 food and a time frame of 10 minutes.

It also allows your community members to have +10 stamina as a bonus.

Workshop Facility
A workshop allows you build your own equipment to fight off zombies along with making and repairing the present items. Building it requires you to have 5 building materials, 2 community members, 10 influence points and 15 minutes of construction time.

It also enables you to construct +100 faster.

Radio Facility
Radio allows you to communicate with your community members while you are outside your home base. It also enables you to communicate with other survivors and ask for help or help them in return.

However, to do this a certain amount of influence points are required. The channels available on a radio are 26.99, 27.04, 27.095, 27.145 and 27.25.

      Yes but drastically reduces the number of ‘community missions’ you have to do. ie. “So-and-so is angry/sad/scared”.
      But even then, probably not worth it if you can manage your time well enough to keep on top of the missions.
