Konami Pre-E3 Wrap Up: PES, Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid V

By   /   Jun 7, 2013

Konami held its pre-E3 shindig yesterday, and we all got pretty much what we expected but at the same time, not really. But we’ll get into that in a minute.

First up, Konami revealed the details about its new PES game, which runs on a totally new engine that facilitates team motivation and abilities from factors such as home and away games. Next up was Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. It looks like the world is bigger this time around than it was in the first game and more modern to boot.

Then there’s the major event, the event that everyone’s talking about. The event David Hayter wishes he had a more active talking role in. Yesterday, however, Kojima-San had other plans, choosing it as a day to unveil Kiefer Sutherland as the actor behind Snake.

“Like New Coke!” Tweeted David Hayter.

Indeed Kojima is looking to make Metal Gear Solid 5 a little different from the tried and true formula. His marketing scheme has already been strange enough, introducing us to what we thought were two separate games and mashing them together to become one (Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain). Kojima now wants MGS5 to be more “subdued and darker” than previous MGS games — focusing on race and revenge — and believes Sutherland is the right person to pull this off.

A few conspiracy theories have already started floating around out there and forgive me if I say I’m also not entirely convinced MGS5 is Hayter-free. The most out-there conspiracy theory postulates David Hayter, Kiefer Sutherland and Hideo Kojima are working in cahoots to pull off a “Coca Cola Classic” maneuver and, well, see for yourself:

Hideo Kojima

What do you think? Will David Hayter show up in one form or another or what?
