Need for Speed Rivals Announced for Current-Gen

By   /   May 23, 2013

Following a couple of teasers, EA has finally announced Need for Speed Rivals for a release on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC this year.

The news comes as a surprise really. Where everyone is scrambling for news on the next-gen platforms, EA comes in between and announces a new title for current-gen. The publisher did mention that the title is being developed for the PS4 and Xbox One as well but didn’t mention any release date. The way EA handled the next-gen question, it’s like the next-gen versions will see to a release after the current gen versions have released.

Gothenberg-based studio Ghost Games is developing the game and will utilize DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine.

Rivals will see to the mixing of elements taken from both Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted. The new game will offer a similar open world and will allow players to take on the role of either a racer or a police officer. Customization for cars is of course there, as is the multiplayer element; specifically a new feature called AllDrive which lets players drop in and out of each others’ worlds.

So tell me again how Need for Speed Rivals is bringing something new to the table?
