The much rumored Call of Duty: Ghosts is real and Activision has now officially confirmed the title in a press release. A teaser trailer was also released alongside.
To start off this year’s Call of Duty installment will be releasing on November 5, 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The announcement also mentioned availability “for next-generation platforms” but did not provide specifics as to which ones and if the release date would be the same.
Fans of the series would be glad to know that ‘Ghosts’ is powered by a brand new engine. Details on that have not been revealed and Activision has promised further information on May 21 via Xbox.com, Xbox Live and Spike TV.
Note that May 21 is also the same day when Microsoft announces their new next-gen console. While it’s a given that Call of Duty: Ghosts will release on the new Xbox, there’s also the chance that Microsoft has managed to gain some kind of exclusivity with the title. Perhaps like before, Call of Duty: Ghosts will release on their new console first or maybe it comes with bonus features.
“Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do,” Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin said in a prepared statement. “We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.”
Call of Duty: Ghosts is now available for pre-order worldwide.
