Defiance has been released on the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC. Naturally, as you would expect from a MMO Defiance many types of weapons in it. In fact, the sheer number of guns in the game can easily overwhelm a newbie.

Defiance Weapons and Modifications

Apart from the standard weapons, you will also find numerous alien bio and energy weapons too. Most of the weapons present in the game can be modified with parts to improve their performance on the battlefield. Keep in mind that weapon effectiveness is also increased by Skills.

Furthermore, you can expect find numerous weapons with the same name in the game. Special versions of the weapon with same name will have the same base stats. However, they will also have something extra like more modification slots or damage effects like fire or radiation.

Additionally, purple colored weapons are a part of a synergy set. If you use them with other items of the same synergy set then that will grant you special bonuses.

Defiance Long Range Weapons

There are two types of long range weapons in the game.

  • Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
  • Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle

Bolt Action Sniper Rifle
These sniper rifles do some awful lot of damage from a far range. However, they carry one big dis advantage; in between shots with this gun you will lose sight of your foe.

Although they do a lot of damage they also fire at a very slow rate. So, you need to make sure that each shot you take with this gun is a headshot. These snipers and assault rifles are soulmates.

Assault Rifle
Like in any shooter games, assault rifles are the answer to most of your problems. They fire at a quick rate and do reasonable damage over a mid-long range. Furthermore, they have large ammo capacity and can be reloaded fairly quickly.

This is one of the most polarizing weapon types in the game. Pistol
Pistols in this game are a tough weapon to wield. For starters, you really need to be accurate and make every shot count otherwise your enemy will be left standing when you have an empty magazine. It is advised that you leave this weapon altogether or the mod the shit out of your pistol to make it a worthwhile weapon going forward.

These guns are absolutely lethal at close range. They make a very good combo with the decoy EGO power. However, one big drawback is the amount of time they take to reload.

These guns are more powerful than Pump Action Shotguns. However, their accuracy is really not all the great. If there are multiple foes standing nearby, then this gun is highly effective as it does AOE damage. Furthermore, they have knock back property associated with their ammo.

Grenades

Rocket Launchers
Rocket Launchers are very useful against foes which come later in the game. They are especially useful against foes that are on higher ground than you. As you would imagine they deal considerable AOE damage.

All launchers have lock on function. So, for those enemies who are hiding behind cover, make sure that you fire at the target from very far and aim above. This rocket will arc down and fall on the target from above.

It is advised that you pick a launcher with the greatest Blast Radius and not the one with the most damage. Rocket Launchers are best paired with Assault Rifles and Light Machine Guns.

Defiance Advanced Weapons

There are two types of advanced weapons in the game.

  • Bio-Magnetic Gun
  • Infector

Bio-Magnetic Gun
This is an excellent gun for supports as it replenishes the shields of nearby allies. However, do not make the mistake of taking this as your major damage gun.

It is highly advised that three members of your group take this gun in PVE. This will make your party practically immortal. Furthermore, one you hit an enemy with its beam; a nearby foe is also struck with it.

  • Heavy Coiler (Multiple foes are not hit with this gun. However, it does more damage on one foe than any other Bio-Magnetic Gun)

Infector
With this weapon, you can traumatize an enemy by having swarms of insect hatch in the enemy’s body. However, it really doesn’t do that much damage. You will need another weapon for that or may be your party members can finish the job after you have left the enemy defenseless.

Defiance Weapon Modifications

Every weapon in the game can have 1-4 modification slots on it. These modification slots are named as follows; Barrel, Stock, Magazine and Sight. Remember, that each modification slot has a power level assassinated with it.
