EA Considering Making Frostbite 2 Work With Oculus Rift

EA is looking into the possibility of making their Frostbite 2 engine compatible with Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset.

Previously the publisher had stealthily requested a student researcher to look into the virtual reality technology in games, specifically referencing the Oculus Rift. On being asked if it was true, EA confirmed that they are indeed planning on checking the compatibility between the two.

Frank Vitz, head of Frostbite’s creative team at DICE said, “I am really eager to see how the Oculus Rift works with Frostbite. There are multiple titles in the works that would be awesome with the Rift.”

He continued: “It should be awesome. BF3 in S3D works great and our current version of the engine has all of that support still. I have one of the first Rift dev kits coming my way in March. We have an internal community eager to work on it… I know of at least four kits on order.”

Nothing is for certain yet but we can very well cross our fingers. Vitz also added that the basic implementation should be “pretty straightforward.”
