Destiny is being repeatedly touted as Bungie’s biggest game ever, so it only makes sense that the developer wants as large of an audience as they can muster. According to Bungie co-founder Jason Jones:
If you have the basic coordination to play a shooter, you can experience all Destiny has to offer. All core activities can be able to be enjoyed by a novice player, even as we get into those complex six-player activities, like raids […] We want everybody that wants to play to be able to play Destiny. We spent all this time building this great experience. Why should we do anything less?
Jones admits that it’s no challenge making the game easily accessible, the problem lies in keeping them once they’re in.
Hardcore players easily get bored of a game if it presents no challenge, and the ‘dumbing down’ of various game franchises to make them more easily accessible for a wider audience tends to incite quite a bit of outrage (I’m looking at you, Bioware).
