TERA Free-to-play Release Date Announced

By   /   Jan 30, 2013

If you didn’t get a chance to play TERA, or stopped playing due to a hefty subscription fee, then the time to check it out is soon upon us. Come February 5th, En Masse, the makers of TERA, will be converting the game to its new free-to-play model. Not only that, but they’re also releasing a new three-on-three PvP battleground, as well as the Crucible of Flame dungeon.

The specific free-to-play model that En Masse is going with, for TERA, is one of my favorites. The core of the game will be absolutely free, but cosmetic and convenience items will be sold via micro-transactions. So long as they don’t make anything so inconvenient, that you’re basically “forced” to buy convenience items, then this system will work out really well; both for En Masse, and the consumers.

Speaking of convenience, if you’re a founder or elite member, under the new free-to-play system, then you’ll receive additional character slots, bank tabs and a special mount. Though, if you’re an Elite player, you’ll also get extra quests, mounts, dungeons bonuses, store discounts and daily items.
