GameStick Versus Ouya: The Battle Of Micro Consoles

By   /   Jan 3, 2013

If you’re a fan of the android operating system, then you’ll be happy to hear that not one, but two consoles are being made for android gaming.

In an attempt to hit a market for inexpensive consoles, Boxer 8 is developing the Ouya, with a $100 price tag. In a recent kickstarter campaign, the Ouya managed to earn $8,596,474 out of its $950,000 goal. Obviously, there’s interest an inexpensive, android based console.

Unsurprisingly, or perhaps coincidentally, another android based console makes it way on Kickstarter. The GameStick, being developed by PlayJam, is boasting an even smaller console (the size of a USB port, by the looks of it) at an even smaller price tag, of $80.

What makes the GameStick even more interesting, is that it claims to only need $100,000 on Kickstarter, in order for it to hit shelves in less than 4 months.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out down the road, as the consoles comes into their own.
