An anonymous source from inside Valve’s circles has revealed that Half-Life 3 will be an open world game with RPG elements.
He also mentioned that the game’s release date is still at least a year away. Does this put the game for the next-generation consoles?
It makes sense if you think about it. Valve is a company that cherishes it’s games and fan-base. I can’t see them cooking up a game just because fans demand so. Half-Life 3 being such an anticipated game as it is, developing it for the next-generation consoles would be a most epic decision.
The anonymous’ source also reports that the development of the game has been one hectic ride. It started out as a pure shooter, after which puzzle-solving and exploration elements were thrown in the batch. Finally the game has taken a turn for open world elements with quests, NPCs, etc.
I personally cannot imagine Freeman walking up to a NPC, accepting a quest and then getting a new shiny crowbar as a reward after it’s completion. However, I have faith in Valve as to whatever decision Gabe takes, it would be good.
