There are eight crafting disciplines in Guild Wars 2 and Artificer is one of them. If the armor (light, medium or heavy) is not a primary need and belong to the scholar profession like Elementalist, Mesmer or Necromancer, Artificer is the discipline that may draw your attention.
They not only craft weapons such as Foci, staves, scepters, and tridents but also the sigils which are used to upgrade the crafted magical weapons. Along weapons, Artificers can also craft some potions, which can be used by the players for some extra buffs upon need. These potions can be consumed by any profession.
Since you can choose any 2 crafting disciplines at a time in Guild Wars 2, following NPCs will let you become an Artificer for a small amount of 10 bronze coins:
Salim (Divinity’s Reach)
Oolema (Rata Sum)
Draiocht (The Grove)
Ruuga Blackear (The Black Citadel)
Klunn (Lion’s Arch)
Wurli (Caledon Forest)
